Shady Sunday

It’s warm again today so we’ll be staying inside until dusk and even then be looking for a breeze. I feel a bit guilty with Mark hanging about inside with me but his shoulder isn’t quite ready for golf after his marathon session at Oitavos and all our travels with him heaving suitcases in and out of cars, on and off of trolleys and then on to beds. When we have the car we can head north a bit and wander about in the misty coolness. If you have some time, look at pictures of Sintra and Nazare, two towns up the coast. There are a couple of golf courses to check in that area and a number of villages we want to explore. Exciting.

Friday evening was cooler so we went out for ice cream at Santini’s – sworn to be the best ice cream you’ll ever taste from reviewers and our new landlord.

Ice Cream Extraordinaire

Well, it lives up to the hype with Mark saying it was as good as Blue Bell’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, high praise indeed. This is an ice cream recipe that the owner brought with him from his native Italy. I wasn’t surprised it was good – Italian ice cream is the only ice cream I can ever remember loving.

After that we went on another wander. Mark had found another area full of restaurants and night life that we’d yet to see. It was immediately adjacent to the marina and for the first time we could smell a pungent sea. It was also a little off the beaten track with a different type of tourist, or local I suppose, the boat owning crowd. It was beautiful but alarmingly packed with people so we just looked about and headed back. We will visit again and take pictures then.

On the way back, we discovered an amazing bridge. The pictures don’t do it justice. The water was aqua under the lights and the buildings gleamed, quite astonishing.

We came out of absolute darkness to these buildings on either side of the dark bridge. Palms grow out of the rocks on the sides.
